Professor Black Sauvignon Blanc

The Prof Black vineyards are high up in the foothills of the Simonsberg, with one of the blocks being 36 years old (that’s really old for Sauvignon). The wine carries an explosive vanguard of elderflower, nettles, ripe passionfruit, and lime. The palate is alive and zesty, with passionfruit and citrus elements lingering for days.

Cultivar: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Old Vine Chenin Blanc

Made from a single Chenin Blanc vineyard planted in 1978 on the lower slopes of the Simonsberg. Old bush vines that have stood the test of time, produce a small harvest of concentrated fruit.

Enticing nose of quince, yellow apple, peach, naartijies with a piece of lemon rind. The palate is full of vigour, crisp acidity, with hints of lemon grass, lime, stone fruits and dried herbs. Precise and focused, acidity adding structure and backbone, with a mineral finish.

Cultivar: 100% Old Vine Chenin Blanc

The White Lady Chardonnay

This wine oozes undeniable elegance. Laser-like lemon-and-lime acidity cuts through the core of more rounded peach fruit and baked apples, finished off with roasted almond and vanilla pod. The wine is blended from three parcels of fruit, all harvested at different ripeness. This enables enormously complex fruit elements, without relying too much on oak or batonage.

Cultivar: 100% Chardonnay

Cabernet Franc

It’s not often that an experience manages to be both supremely intense, and yet reassuringly soft, but this Cabernet Franc achieves this in spades. This wine’s exquisite deep crimson colour makes some huge promises to the drinker. Fortunately, both the nose and the palate amply deliver on those promises. Aromas of black cherry, mocha, fresh earth and violets explode out of the glass, followed by a full, textured palate, fine tannins, and a lingering finish.

Cultivar: 100% Cabernet Franc

The Blue Lady Cabernet Sauvignon

A supremely powerful expression of Stellenbosch Cabernet. Aromas of dark berries, tobacco, tilled earth, on the nose, as the wine opens it moves towards plum, cassis and black currant. The palate is packed with finely textured tannins and supporting oak spice, cedar wood and pencil shavings.

Cultivar: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Three Cape Ladies

The Three Cape Ladies was the first Cape Blend ever bottled. It was also James Bond’s seductive wine of choice in the 007 book Carte Blanche, published in 2011. If you now feel the need to use a Sean Connery voice whenever you say “Three Cape Ladies”, we completely understand.

Dark and brooding nose of black berries and cherry compote on the nose with a hint of rosemary. The palate is rich and textured with bright red fruits and strong tannins, cigar box and dark chocolate on the finish.

Cultivar: 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Pinotage, 12% Cabernet Franc

Professor Black Pitch Black

If there was a “renaissance man” wine in the Warwick range, this would be it. It carries all the dark, brooding ripe fruit of classic barrel-aged Stellenbosch Bordeaux, combined with a delightfully progressive component of whole-bunch, tank-fermented Cabernet. The Cinsault adds a layer of clean, bright, juicy berry fruit, over the otherwise quite weighty affair.

Deep purple in colour, the nose is dark and inviting, with notes of spice and dried herbs, followed by purple flowers and a hint of cedar and cigar box. The palate is lush and smooth, with hints of blackcurrant, cassis, aniseed, coffee beans, and cedarwood. Finely packed tannins and fresh acidity.

Cultivar: 39% Cabernet Franc, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cinsault, 10% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, 6% Malbec

Triology

Dark crimson coloured, the wine announces itself with mulberries, cherries, plums, and warm spices. The coolness shines through into the glass, with aromas of dark berries and lavender, pencil shavings and cedar wood following through on the palate. Finely structured tannins accompanied well with bright acidity and longevity to the fruit elements of this classic blend.

Cultivar: 48% Cabernet Franc, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot

Sauvignon Blanc

Expressive nose of lemongrass, passionfruit and green apple is enhanced on the palate by tropical fruits, fresh herbs, and green melon. The palate is smooth and textured with a well-integrated acidity.

Cultivar: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Chardonnay

Pear drop, peach and green apples on the nose, leads into pineapple, lime, and baked apple on the palate. The wine is light on its feet, yet still has great structure and support on the mid palate. The finish, lovely long and dry with a lingering and fresh acidity.

Cultivar: 100% Chardonnay

Dry Rosé

Enticing notes of strawberries and cream, herbs de Provence and peaches on the nose leads you into more floral notes, winter melon and strawberry on the palate. All supported by creamy texture and the finish is beautifully dry and elegant, with a lift of acidity.

Cultivar: 100% Pinotage

Cabernet Sauvignon

Dark and brooding nose of cassis, dark chocolate and blue berries. The palate is true to its varietal, cigar box, black berries and cassis and a hint of rosemary with smooth tannins without forgoing structure.

Cultivar: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Pinotage

The nose leaps out of the glass with mulled strawberries, cherry, and spice. The palate is vibrant and silky with red cherries, dark chocolate, floral notes, and cinnamon. Silky tannins add texture to an alluring floral and elegant finish.

Cultivar: 100% Pinotage

MCC Brut Rosé

A pastel pink colour with notes of peach and strawberries bursting out of the glass with red apple and sherbet on the palate. Its fine mouse and a crisp finish make this an ideal accompaniment on any summers day.

Cultivar: 100% Pinot Noir

Uitkyk Brandy

Citrus, nuts, spices, and vanilla on the nose. The palate is soft and lively with roasted almonds and fresh citrus, following through on to the finish. The wine was double distilled in special 2000 litre pot stills, heated over an open flame. After distillation, the young brandy was matured on the estate for 10 years in 300 litre oak casks, the first 9 months in new casks and thereafter in third-fill casks. All the components are taken out of barrel after ten years and then matured in tank until bottling.

Cultivar: Cinsault, Chenin Blanc, Clairette Blanche, Cabernet Sauvignon
